Garrott P88 Cartridge (Currently Unavailable)

Garrott P88 Moving Coil Cartridge

The Garrott P88 cartridge is the result of many years of Garrott research and development. Their aim was to combine the unique sonic abilities of the Garrott Decca with the desirable features of modern moving coil designs. The resulting Moving Coil is an exceptional cartridge, which combines agility, musical depth and easy system matching.

The New Garrott P88 / P89 MC Cartridges

The Garrott P88MC cartridge represents the end result of many years of research into the factors and materials that dictate and control the final sonic signature of a phono transducer, and of the development of this research into a form that can be made available to the discerning audiophile. Since the early 1980s Garrott Brothers have been convinced that recorded music could be reproduced with all of the drama, listener involvement and character of an actual live performance, rather than with the disembodied, dry and shrill reproduction provided by many popular cartridges currently being marketed. This concept was developed to a remarkable degree over a number of years, resulting in the acclaimed Garrott Decca Cartridges that today still retain a strong following among audio enthusiasts.

It had been the Garrott ambition to capture this level of sonic faithfulness to the spirit of a performance, and to make it available in a more conventional form, so that the sonic benefits resulting from Garrott research could be enjoyed by a wider and less technically motivated audience. Until now, the achievement of these high levels of fidelity to the original performance has been available only to those prepared to live on knife-edge coping with the various esoteric issues of arm/cartridge compatibility, minute setup detail, going to extraordinary lengths over hum and noise minimization, suffering the results of erratic groove tracking, and the unpredictable effects of changing environmental conditions.

With the release of the Garrott P88 MC cartridge the full range of sonic realism and drama can be achieved within the parameters of everyday high-end electronics and conventional listening environments, while at the same time tracking your irreplaceable vinyl recordings in an exemplary fashion and with minimal surface degradation.

The Garrott P89 MC cartridge, at the top of the range, embodies all of the technology inherent in the P88 with the addition of exotic materials in the form of sapphire cantilever plus the most advanced diamond stylus profile, resulting in superior delicacy of detail and the ability to perfectly track many recordings that have become virtually unplayable with lesser cartridges. The quality of reproduction achievable with the Garrott P89 and a well made vinyl record is such that the playback hardware will fade into invisibility revealing a sonic performance approaching that of the master tape.
