Grado Statement Master Wood Body Phono Cartridge

The Reference series of wooden cartridges are fixed coil design, handcrafted at Grado labs with specially selected species of mahogany; an intricate procedure of curing is done between production steps to achieve optimal sonic quality. The Reference Series Generator/Stylus module is not replaceable, allowing a redesigned one-piece magnetic circuit and a reduction of chassis resonances. Grado Reference Series phono cartridges utilize manufacturing and assembly techniques of fantastic accuracy and precision, the result is virtual perfection in a phono pickup; should be used only with the finest equipment.

The Master and Reference models use a five piece OTL cantilever technology achieving an additional 5% tip mass reduction over the Platinum and Sonata models. The coils are wound with ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire. The Master model is mounted with Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond, and the Reference model uses Grado's true ellipsoid design diamond.

Reference Series Reviews of Grado Reference and Master Cartridges
"As a long time Grado user, I was quite shocked at what I heard; all of the Grado virtues, but with a lot more warmth and silkiness and much better dynamic contrast -- including a lower noise floor." -Hi Fi News / Ken Kessler

Statement Series Reviews of Grado Reference and Master Cartridges
As a long time Grado user, I was quite shocked at what I heard; all of the Grado virtues, but with a lot more warmth and silkiness and much better dynamic contrast---including a lower noise floor, despite the (desperate) need for a step-up.

  • "Female voices have at last found a cartridge that flatters. Soloists, duets, choirs; it doesn't matter; the Grado won't shatter."
  • "The current Grado may represent a new performance plateau. It's the best moving iron cartridge I've ever heard, and it's making a stir among those who know." -Positive Feedback / Charles Hollander Vol.8, No.1

"The sound on the Master seems to emerge from a velvety silence... I found the Master open, airy and great on the timbral transients. The air and soundstaging on the Master was almost shocking." -Positive Feedback / Jeffrey Silverstein

The Statement Reference is used by Musical Fidelity Sound Lab in their cutting room and in their mastering suite.

"The cartridges arrived today. Thank you very much!! Listening to the Statement Reference now, yowzers!! Sweet, this is what vinyl is all about. All the boys here are very impressed!" -John Wood - Executive VP -Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
