Grado Reference Wood Body Phono Cartridge

The Reference series of wooden cartridges are fixed coil design, handcrafted at Grado labs with specially selected species of mahogany; an intricate procedure of curing is done between production steps to achieve optimal sonic quality. The Reference Series Generator/Stylus module is not replaceable, allowing a redesigned one-piece magnetic circuit and a reduction of chassis resonances. Grado Reference Series phono cartridges utilize manufacturing and assembly techniques of fantastic accuracy and precision, the result is virtual perfection in a phono pickup; should be used only with the finest equipment.

The Master and Reference models use a five piece OTL cantilever technology achieving an additional 5% tip mass reduction over the Platinum and Sonata models. The coils are wound with ultra-high purity long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper wire. The Master model is mounted with Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond, and the Reference model uses Grado's true ellipsoid design diamond.

Reference Series Reviews of Grado Reference and Master Cartridges
"As a long time Grado user, I was quite shocked at what I heard; all of the Grado virtues, but with a lot more warmth and silkiness and much better dynamic contrast -- including a lower noise floor." -Hi Fi News / Ken Kessler

Statement Series Reviews of Grado Reference and Master Cartridges
As a long time Grado user, I was quite shocked at what I heard; all of the Grado virtues, but with a lot more warmth and silkiness and much better dynamic contrast---including a lower noise floor, despite the (desperate) need for a step-up.

"The Reference is the finest fixed-coil cartridge I've ever heard, and one of the finest sounding cartridges I've ever heard especially in the midrange, regardless of price." -Stereophile / Michael Fremer

"I have to say the Well Tempered turntable I have with the Grado cartridge is fantastic. It's the best LP playback I've heard in my house so far, or in the studio." -Gateway Mastering Studios

"It is a great bargain, and I would take it over any number of cartridges I have heard that sell up to five times its price." -Absolute Sound

"You forget your reviewing a cartridge and, before you know it, the records over. This is what The Reference does best, it disappears." -Ultimate Audio
