Mordaunt Short Avant 902i Calvados 2-way shielded bookshelf loudspeakers
Despite a cost conscious price tag and compact size, the Mordaunt-Short™ Avant™ 902 loudspeakers offer an impressive performance thanks to their use of second generation Avant technologies. The Avant 902 loudspeaker is a rear ported, two-way bookshelf model which combines mid range resolution and treble clarity with tight, fast and surprisingly extended bass performance.

All-new mid/bass drivers At the heart of the Avant™ range of loudspeakers are new optimized, re-profiled, propriety CPC™ mid/bass drivers designed using the latest CAD technology. The drivers incorporate unique radial ribbing on the surface of the anodized aluminum cone. This ensures excellent critical rigidity at the cone edges for truer piston-like behavior.
Front coupled surround edges A new manufacturing process involving a folded return assembly, enables coupling of the surround edges to the front of the aluminum cone. Not only does this deliver improved damping but, it also allows a more linear motion of the drive unit. The surround sits on a proprietary shallow profile, steel chassis.
Vented, structured steel chassis The Avant drive units incorporate novel steel front mounting, which features a unique vented, multi-fixing point design. The combination of extra strength, provided by the profiled steel and multiple fixing points create optimal structural rigidity. This produces a more linear operation with lower mechanical noise.
Enhanced cabinet construction The Avant’s revised cabinet design makes use of an optimized internal bracing layout at critical points and uses a new construction technique that leads to improved structural integrity and acoustic damping. A reduction of the cabinet’s width, by 15mm, also helps performance, while side-mounted, molded cabinet feet offer greater stability without increasing the overall footprint of the speaker.
Lightweight cone to voice coil coupling Low mass, high efficiency, viscous coupling of cone to voice coil, using our “5 POINT” polymer sub-cone and aerospace approved, viscoelastic bonding system.
Completely remodeled front plates The Avant range introduces a new front plate design, featuring smoothed inner tweeter flares. This shape delivers improved dispersion and better imaging. Also, a reversed radius detail offers improved baffle coupling for flatter frequency response.
