In 2004, something of a revolution took place at Mordaunt-Short. The legendary loudspeaker manufacturer produced the flagship Performance model which re-wrote the rule book and used some truly groundbreaking technologies never before seen in the hi-fi world. Performance has since won countless awards around the globe and is considered to be a modern classic.
Many of Performance’s most significant features have now trickled down to the company’s new range – Mezzo. All this means that true hi-fi bliss is available to a wider audience, most notably you and all at a phenomenally affordable price.
Comprising a full loudspeaker series and a blend of scintillating sound and truly graceful aesthetics, Mezzo affords you the opportunity to experience music and movies as those involved intended, and what can be better than that?
Mezzo uses patent pending proprietary Aspirated Tweeter Technology (ATT) - a truly ground breaking design that was first seen in the now legendary Performance series. Using state-of the-art injection moulding, the elongated unit whose form is defined by complex acoustic principles - floats freely in a discrete enclosure. Along its length are strategically positioned vents eliminating the colouration which plagues traditional closed-back designs. This unusual venting system means Mezzo's high frequency drivers literally 'breathe', resulting in an open yet detailed sound.
Mordaunt-Short uses an advanced alumninium dome tweeter which the company has been perfecting for over 20 years. The ultra thin diaphragm and compression moulded surround is mounted on a low resonance chassis. The tweeter utilises a high temperature voice coil with liquid cooling and damping to ensure controlled high frequency performance with excellent detail.
Belying its compact size, Mezzo 2 embraces ATT to produce a remarkably expansive sound and stereo image and is the ideal two-channel stereo speaker.
After a lengthy research process, Mordaunt-Short has rewritten the rule book and taken its legendary CPC™ (Continuous Profile Cone) bass drivers to the next level. These combine with a sound deadened driver basket for a superb all round listening experience.
The cabinet’s curved shape discourages the build up of standing waves for a cleaner and more realistic sound. Indeed it is unusual to get this level of performance from such a small speaker and with your eyes closed you’ll think you have a full orchestra or rock group in front of you. In fact to put this theory to the test, Suzi Perry from Channel Five's Gadget Show pitted the little Mezzos against a £12,000 pair of uber high end speakers and a live musician.
Sound and Image ReviewMordaunt-Short's Mezzo home theatre speaker system sounds excellent, looks absolutely gorgeous, and is engineered (especially the subwoofer) to ensure that you can extract the highest performance of which it is capable.
Hifi World ReviewStereo staging was open and spacious... The tweeter is so smooth and clean I also found myself able to turn volume up without having to cringe. Silky mid and treble make these loudspeakers unusually distinctive.
T3 ReviewThe stand out element from this collection of audiophile delectableness is Mordaunt-Short's new Mezzo. For the price, we can't think of anything that beats it. The curved cabinet prevents soundwaves from building up, thus creating a crisper, clearer sound.
