Ortofon Kontrapunkt C Low Output Moving Coil Cartridge
Ortofon Kontrapunkt C and H These two cartridges round out the Kontrapunkt line with the final two letters of Bach’s surname.
Both incorporate Ortofon’s newly developed FSE (Field Stabilizing Element) to achieve optimal frequency response linearity by stabilizing the magnetic field – especially during complex crescendo passages – and to ensure consistently fine channel separation across the frequency band.
An output of 470 µV ensures an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio with any MC input.
Ortofon Kontrapunkt C Features: The conical aluminium cantilever is fitted with a Nude FG 80 diamond stylus. Our listening panel concludes: Kontrapunkt c is a true high end reference cartridge, conveying music with supreme precision, impact and dynamics. Its stereo imaging capabilities illuminate the furthest corners of the soundstage in all three dimensions.
A high-resolution audio system is required to fully realize the information retrieval potential of this cartridge.
Recommended load: 50 – 100 Ohms. For enhanced openness – as high as 1,000 Ohms.

The Absolute Sound, Ultimate Analg Issue, Vinyl Lives! -Paul Seydor, June/July 2007 I needed no more than those few opening seconds to realize that the C images more precisely than any pickup in my experience. The C exhibits unsurpassed detail, resolution, and clarity. This thing negotiates dynamics at every level like a sports car takes hairpin turns. Ruthlessly accurate and analytical, Ortofon’s Kontrapunkt C is unsurpassed for control, speed, and detail… By any standards, this is an outstanding cartridge:
Ortofon Kontrapunkt C Phono Cartridge -Sound Stage Review The first ‘table we pulled out of the box had the most expensive cartridge bolted to it. The Kontrapunkt c (there’s also an a, b and h, making up the four letters in J.S Bach’s last name), which retails for $1599, proved to be a real smoothie, with a seamless top-to-bottom coherency that was an absolute delight on all forms of music, but especially acoustic jazz. The Kontrapunkt c’s bass was especially notable for its control, which it handily combined with outstanding articulation. Although the Kontrapunkt c initially seemed a little soft down low, I quickly came to realize that it’s far from cushy, with outstanding delineation of each note of acoustic bass, and a delicious roundness and articulation of kickdrum overtones. The top-dog Kontrapunkt c consistently impressed and seduced, with a seamless, musically coherent presentation, one that I’d be happy to listen to on a daily basis.
