Ortofon Rohmann Low Output Moving Coil Cartridge
A Briefing on Ortofon Moving Coil Cartridges Nothing demonstrates more convincingly Ortofon´s commitment to be the world´s last cartridge manufacturer than the ongoing development of new state-of-the-art models, and Ortofon will continue to refine upon the level of sound quality attainable from analogue recordings. Since 1948 Ortofon has introduced about 100 different moving coil models, and more are to follow. Contrary to other types of phono catridges, the moving coil principle is not suited for mass production. Each of the four coils contains between 11 an 24 turns of wire, depending on model, and has to be wound by hand under a microscope. The wire itself is much thinner than a human hair. The high degree of craftsmanship involved is one of the "secrets" behind Ortofon's reputation.
Details on the Ortofon Rohmann MC Rohmann is named after Ortofon’s former managing director, in honour of many years of service. This cartridge body is milled from a solid block of aluminium and the dark blue anodized body exploits aluminum’s special damping characteristics to suppress resonance. The slim-line Nude Orto-Line diamond ensures flawless tracking of even the most dynamic passages. MC Rohmann conveys the full range of detail and subtle nuance, even when a powerful brass section competes with the fine nuances of quieter instruments such as the flute or harpsichord. A high performance MC transformer or MC preamplifier is recommended. Recommended load: 100 Ohms or more.
Hi-Fi World Favorites Guide July 1996, Vol. 6, #5. "In a way it's MC 2000 meets MC 7500 with all the tonal strength and dynamo sound Ortofon has been putting into its best-moving coil cartridges of late."
Hi-Fi World Review April 1996 by Eric Braithwaite "Another top quality MC from Ortofon, with superb tonal quality and excellent imagery... The Rohmann, which did one of the neatest balancing acts between truth and music I ever heard. Whether it was a slightly over-nasal Dylan, a somewhat weedy sax, or a crammed and recessed backing threesome, the Rohmann touched up the color just enough to put the music firmly at the front of my mind. To do this with absolute integrity and not a single sign of tonal fiddling marks real expertise...Ortofon really is on a roll, with the field almost all to themselves."
