Got dip switches? If not, the Pro-Ject Tube Box SE II is screaming your name. If you want to get the most you can from your phono cartridge, you need a preamp that'll match it's impedance as well as boost the signal without introducing extraneous noise.
The Tube Box SE II is a refinement of the already-fantastic Tube Box II. It's cleaner, quieter, and more versatile. Consider it if your cartridge is a little fussy in terms of loading.
The Pro-Ject Tube Box SE II is a cost effective way to achieve audiophile-quality amplification and RIAA equalization from a pair of ECC83 (12AX7A) triode tubes for moving coil or moving magnet phono cartridges with up to 60db gain (MC).
The robust metal case shields the internal electronics from both vibration and electromagnetic interference while providing a compact layout space for the discrete dual-mono circuitry.
Seven selectable impedance settings are provided for moving coil cartridge optimization and a subsonic filter provides attenuation of low frequency noise and rumble. An outboard power supply is included.
Six Moons Review of Pro-Ject Tube Box SE "It is so well balanced, musical and involving that I wasn't conscious of any shortcomings at all during relaxed, non-critical listening. I think this is the key to designing affordable gear: Don't go for extremes, just offer balance across the frequency range, focus on getting the midrange right and most of all, zero in on delivering the musical message."
tech radar Review A phono stage that uses valves to create an awesome sound
The sound is detailed, extended at both frequency extremes and well controlled and imaged. But above all that it is very much 'of a piece', in a way that not all audio equipment seems to manage. Everything is kept in utterly plausible relation to everything else in the mix (always assuming a good LP, of course) and the result is some very solid and 'present' musicians right in front of you.
