The inspiration for the design of the P3-24 did not come from an evolution of the last P3 2000 model. Rather it came through revisiting the virtues of the original Planar 3 turntable. These virtues gave Rega their design brief: no unnecessary frills, outstanding musical performance at a fair price, reliability, and high quality components.
The new plinth, while slim and attractive, offers high levels of rigidity by using phenolic resin laminates with a high quality edging. It is a considerable improvement over the current P2. The P3-24 uses the same very high performance, low vibration motor, that is used with the P5 & 9 turntables. The clever controlling circuitry can be adjusted for phase angle of the motor coils resulting in very low vibration levels from the motor assembly. This design change gives a considerable performance increase over the P3 2000.
The RB301 tonearm, the latest version of the classic RB300, is included with the package. It implements an improved vertical bearing housing, which yields more rigidity and reduces stress in the main 13mm bearing. This assembly is topped off with the improved RB700 bias housing phono cable.
Note that a package discount is applied if you purchase the P3-24 with a Rega Elys 2 cartridge. You can order this package by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu below.
Dimensions: 14.25 x 17.75 x 4.75" (lid closed), 16.75 x 17.75 x 16.7" (lid open)The inspiration for the design of the P3 - 24 did not come from an evolution of the last P3 2000 model. Rather it came from re visiting the virtues of the original planar 3 turntable. These virtues gave us our design brief:
No unnecessary frills.
High performance.
Outstanding musical sound performance for cost price.
Rugged reliability
High quality components
A long life timeMost areas of the turntable have changed, let's start with the plinth. The PlinthThe new plinth whilst being slim and attractive, offers high levels of rigidity by using phenolic resin laminates, with a high quality edging. It is a considerable improvement over the current P2.
High performance motorThe P3 - 24 uses the same very high quality low vibration motor, which is used in the P5 & 9 turntables. The clever controlling circuitry can be adjusted for phase angle of the motor coils resulting in very low vibration levels from the complete motor assembly.
This design change gives a considerable performance increase over the P3 2000.
The TT PSU first developed for the P7 turntable is a high quality outboard power supply; the TTPSU can be used as an affordable upgrade with the P3 - 24 turntable. Offering increased musical performance, by conditioning the electrical supply with a synthesised low distortion crystal controlled ac input. This also gives the added convenience of electronic speed change control.
Main bearing platterThe same high quality drive belt/main bearing and glass platter are carried over from the cast P3 2000.
RB301The famous RB300 has been modified to improve production and give a higher musical sound performance. An improved vertical bearing housing has been used, which gives improved rigidity in the tonearms mounting, reducing the stresses in the main 13mm bearings. This assembly is topped off with the improved RB700 bias housing phono cable.
Rega P3-24 User Manual
Rega TT PSU User ManualStereophile Recommended Componts Class C Rega Plannar 3-24: $895 $$$The P3-24 superficially resembles the original P3, but now includes and AC synchronous motor for lower noise and improved speed stability. It's slimmed-down, lower-mass plinth is made of a wood composite, and adds a phenolic-resin laminate for increased righty. Rega's RB301 tonearm uses the secure, three-point mount found in the RB700 and flagship RB1000 arms, as wells as the improved vertical tracking bearing housing and magnetic anti skating mechanism used in the RB700. The TT PSU outboard power supply produces a stable voltage to drive the motor more precisely, and permits convenient pushbutton selection of the P3-24's two speeds. With a rich, warm, tonal balance, the P3-24 "big, solid images on a soundstage of exuberant size" said Mikey. "Rega's new P3-24 represents an evolutionary step forward, physically , sonically, and ergonomically," he concluded "The classic no-fuss, no-frills turntable," adds ST, "Three thumbs up!" Price includes RB301 tonearm. Optional TT PSU supply costs $375
Stereophile Rega P3-24, RB301, & Elys 2 turntable, tonearm, & phono cartridge By Michael Fremer July, 2008 Fitted with the Elys 2 cartridge and plugged into a variety of good MM phono preamps, the P3-24 immediately explained why the current crop of new, young vinyl devotees are so immediately captivated. The P3-24 produced big, solid images on a soundstage of exuberant size. The tonal balance tended toward the rich, warm side.
Absolute Sound Pro-Ject RM-5, Rega P3-24 & Sota Comet Turntabel Systems march 5th 2008 By Wayne garciaEach of Rega’s upgrades to the ’table makes an impact— and a significant one. But none to my ears as much as the P3- 24’s optional TTPSU power supply. While it adds a relatively substantial $375 to the sticker price, and can be purchased at some later date, I can’t imagine anyone hearing the TTPSU and not buying one. The improvement is that substantial.

Sound and Vision Rega P3-24 Test Report By Al GriffinStarting at the base price of $895, Rega's P3-24 turntable combined with the company's RB301 tonearm and Elys 2 cartridge ($200 extra) represents a solid and affordable step up for a casual vinyl collector looking to enter the high-fidelity Big Leagues. I approached the P3-24 with open ears, hoping to hear a noticeable improvement in the sound of my records. Not only did the turntable deliver on that promise, it also opened my eyes to the sonic potential (and in some cases, weakness) of my record collection. When you add the company's TTPSU external power supply, the package becomes all the more appealing. Those smirking, CD-adopting yupsters may be gone, but vinyl sure isn't - and when played on a turntable like the P3-24, it can sound better than ever.

It gives a new life to the vinyl which sound even better when played on P3-24 turntable.
AV Science Forum Rega P3-24 TT 9-04-08 I've just put an Ortofon 2m Black on it, just today. Wow, big difference over the Elys2 and the 2m isn't even broken in yet.
Adrian Online Turntables: Rega P3-24 / Rega Bias 2 It has stacks of nice low down bass, clear vocals and good stereo channel separation. It’s paired with a matching Rega Bias 2 cartridge. The tracking is fine. Even records purchased from second-hand shops and car boot sales that look badly handled (finger marks and swept across scratches) don’t upset the stylus that much to be annoyed by it.
