The Benz Swiss factory, being designed for research and specialized hand-building, can only produce a finite quantity of phono cartridges. To satisfy the growing market of music lovers searching for quality and affordable moving coil cartridges, Benz went to Japan and established a relationship with an automated factory to produce a series of cartridges reflecting the Benz philosophy. These cartridges had to possess flat frequency response to accurately reproduce the natural tonality of recordings, not the accentuated high frequencies of lesser designs. They had to have exceptional trackability and exemplary channel separation, resolving musical subtlety and three-dimensional imaging. They also had to be compatible with a wide range of tonearms, and be offered in a variety of output levels to match every preamp. The MC Silver, MC Gold and MC20E2 are the results of these efforts. My first MC cartridge. Tremendous performance for the price. I bought the HO version (2.5V). I also own a Goldring Eroica LX cart and this compares favorably at 1/3 less cost...the price is commensurate with the performance. I would buy one of these again if shopping at this price point.

My first mc cartridge and I love it. I have it loaded at 470 ohms and its making preaty sweet music.

Great natural sound with a strong mid range, great control.

This is a low output cart. I had the Denon 103 and did not like it. The Gold is natural, flat frequency response with the exception of a strong mid. Smooth but does not lose detail, it is a good balance. Very good control throughout the whole range. Just a very balance performance. Very good value at this price. I had it looked at 200 Ohm, a rather big VTA and it is fitted on a medium to heavy arm. It really performs for me.
