The Opticon

Other finishes available via special order, call for details.

The DALI OPTICON 2 is our second compact stand-mount option that builds upon the power of the OPTICON 1 with a sizeable 6½ inch low-loss Wood Fibre Woofer and a 28 mm ultra-light Soft Dome Tweeter to make it musically meatier and bringing a little more muscle to the party. The 6½ inch woofer and the more voluminous cabinet make this speaker a true 2-way compact performer. The size of the woofer is matched with a large 28 mm soft dome tweeter to bring out every detail in the audio signal.

Exactingly engineered to extract every last nuance from your music, the use of DALI’s unique SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) magnet motor system (originally developed for the EPICON range) means audio that comes almost completely free from distortion thanks to the SMC’s low-level electrical conductivity. Expect nothing but a dynamic, well-defined and powerful audio reproduction from his speaker.

Available in striking White Matt Satin, Black and Walnut finishes and with high-gloss white or black front baffle, the OPTICON 2 is small in scale but big on performance perfection.

The OPTICON 2 features the same low-loss Wood Fibre Woofer found in our flagship EPICON series, alongside our unique SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) magnet motor system and a brand new Soft Dome Tweeter developed for the OPTICON series, all of which works together along with a individual bass reflex port for the woofer to produce audio exactly as the recording artist originally envisioned it.

It was a very tough decision to sell off my Peachtree D5 speakers. I had owned them for almost three years and they gave me excellent performance and value. But, they had their limitations and it was when I got a pair of the Dali Zensor 1 speakers that I had first noticed those limitations. To me, the tweeter on the Peachtree, though revealing, could be a bit harsh and limiting in that the "sweet spot" a tad narrow. When I had the Dali speakers, I noticed that I could sit about anywhere and still get a broader sweet spot plus the highs were just so much more engaging. Well, the Zensor 1 speakers, for as good as they are, were not going to do it for me either. Enter the Opticon 2 speakers! Wow! I have owned mine now for about three months and I do not miss the D5 speakers at all. The Opticon 2 speakers give me a nice tight bass, a wonderful midrange and the SMC tweeter is the best of all. I can listen for hours and never get fatigued. I hear things so much more clearly now (I know, it sounds like a cliche`). The soundstage is wide and deep, performers seem to be more "focused" and everything is just more "there". Not very scientific I know. Set up was easy and the Opticon 2 speakers are not fussy about placement. I am driving mine with tubed monoblock amps and the Opticons seem to like tubes though in fairness, I have not heard or tried these with solid state amps. FIt and finish is very good and though I miss the great wood veneer finish that I had on the D5 speakers, the vinyl application on the Opticons is well executed. The nice glossy black front baffle adds a nice classy look to the black vinyl finish as well. For the money the performance and value cannot be beat. I highly recommend that one give these a listen and/or have them on their short list of speakers to try if one is in the market for an excellent monitor speaker.
