Denon DP-300F Automatic Turntable w/ Built-In Phono Pre

This workhorse is one of one of the best-sounding, most durable automatic 'tables that we've ever carried. It's high-performance automatic arm, low-noise belt-drive motor, precision-machined diecast aluminum platter and built-in phono preamp combine to yield sonic reproduction that leaves little to be desired - especially in light of the features, and of course, the out-the-door price.

Ortofon 2M Blue Moving Magnet Cartridge w/ Nude Elliptical Diamond

Oh, and to boot, let's not forget the pre-mounted 2M Blue, which Stereophile has been recommending for the past decade or so. It's a readily noticeable refinement on the already-reputable sound of the Ortofon's pop-hit, the 2M Red. The Blue pulls more detail from record groove and handles said detail with a better sense for the spatial aspects of a given recording; a more accurate transcription of soundstage depth & width.

Great overall package! Needle Doctor seems to be one of the few dealers that pairs the DP300F with the Ortofon 2M Blue. If you want an Automatic TT, this is one of the few that still exist in the market that aren't built cheap. That said, the mechanism makes a bit of noise when the arm is automatically started. Also with the 2M Blue not all records will start automatically. Some skid through the first couple of seconds of the track. The solution I was given was to manually cue those records. This happened on two separate systems as I replaced the first thinking it was a defect. This did not occur on my previous Denon 2M Red system. The 2M Blue is a noticible upgrade from the 2M Red. The sound is more detailed and the bass is more defined. Great entry level system for under $1K. I have it paired with AudioEngine A5 speakers and the sound is FANTASTIC!

I had to return my first DP-300F due to a motor issue. The second one's motor is fine, but still generates, to my ear, some (barely) audible flutter. The cue lever on the second one was not set properly, and did not raise the tone arm high enough for manual cuing nor for auto-return. It keeps slipping even now after adjustments. I like the Ortofon 2M blue cartridge, but could never recommend this turntable to anyone.

I guess I got a lemon. After about one hour of playtime the unit exhibited severe wow...inconsistent speed. Reading online reviews I learned I'm not the first to have this issue. Doesn't appear to be the belt; I suspect it's the motor.

Update to a previous review...Had this tt for 3 months and the 2M Blue just opened up in the last week or 2 and it sounds amazing. Highs, mids and lows are very balanced and the definition is incredible. I highly recommend this set up to anyone ... you get a lot of quality for a nice price

set up is a breeze, watched a few videos on YouTube on the general set up, borrowed a friend's gram scale (a hand written note with my order recommended 1.75g). I have the whole thing up and running in 20 minutes. The Ortofon Blue sounds clear and defined, can't want to see how it sounds after a month of break in. The only thing with is that RCA cables are hard wired to the turntable so you can't beef up the connection. I still give it 5 stars fro great sound and easy set up

Just installed the DP300 TT w/ Ortofon Blue today. Wow, what a combination. I'd rate the TT with 4 stars, just cause it's automatic and plays well. It's a bit cheap looking in some respects, but it gets the job done. The Ortofon Blue cartridge is absolutely amazing. Just listed to Abbey Road and heard things I'd never heard before, and the cart had one hour on it. Very warm and detailed. Excellent combination for the money. Also, Needle Doctor did a very good job of installing the cartridge. Tracks perfectly. (Golden Ear Triton 2 speakers, Cambridge preamp, Pioneer receiver.)

I love my new Denon DP300F with the Ortofon 2M Blue! I skipped the red and went straight to the blue after researching the difference between the two as far as sound. Although I haven't heard the 2M Red I am confident I made the right choice. The turntable was easy to set up and the employees at the Needle Doctor were great! I called today to get some assistance with the arm weight. They had me going in minutes and the sound is awesome! I'm running this setup with Emotiva pre-amp/amp and Klipsch LaScalas.
