A Turntable Package for the Discerning Listener on a Budget

Needle Doctor offers one-stop shopping for high-quality, budget-friendly turntable, speaker, headphone, & preamp packages. We've carefully curated these offerings so that you don't have to; they're tried and true, plug & play solutions for every class of audio-enthusiast.

Denon DP-300F Automatic Turntable w/ Built-In Phono Pre

This workhorse is one of the best-sounding, most durable automatic 'tables that we've ever carried. It's high-performance automatic arm, low-noise belt-drive motor, precision-machined diecast aluminum platter and built-in phono preamp combine to yield sonic reproduction that leaves little to be desired - especially in light of the features, and of course, the out-the-door price.

Ortofon 2M Red Entry-Level Audiophile Moving Magnet Cartridge

Oh, and to boot, let's not forget the pre-mounted 2M Red, which Stereophile has been recommending for the past decade or so. It's commonly agreed that it's the best entry-level audiophile cartridge on the market for $100 or less, and it sings like a bird with the DP-300F.

Well I received my Denon DP300F/Ortofon 2M red and i set it all up and put on one of my fav records (Eagles The Long Run, Japanese pressing)and I'm quite honestly? blown away. I've since played several more records and this thing just plays the hell out of them. I'm very happy with this set up.

This combination is superb. The spread of the soundstage and the clarity of instruments is magnificent. For many years I owned a B&O linear turntable with a B&O cartridge type 2. The sound, definition and "reality of what I am now hearing is superior-- much to my delight and surprise.

I LOVE IT. I had the audio technica AT-LP50 as my first record player. After 4 years of use it died and i knew i wanted something better. I have been looking at record player for years and knew I had to save up for a good one and i did. Saved enough to get this package. I am very glad I did. Mind you i probably do not listen to what everyone on this board listens to. I have a wide range of music preferences, from punk, hardcore, grindcore, black metal, powerviolence, , d-beat, noise, ska, reggae, rocksteady, etc. I buy records at shows i go to, mail order. Even the nosiest punk/metal it sounds great under the Ortofon 2M needle. I really did not think it would make a difference, but it does. Very very glad with the purchase. I have the player connected to Behringer UB802 Eurorack UB802 Mixer (why im not sure, its the only thing i had around and still use it to connect to computer speakers with a subwoofer) and it still sounds awesome. Next thing is to invest in speakers. Maybe not, i did spend a lot on the player. The needle doctor crew was very very helpful when setting up the player. Again very pleased with my purchase. Now just need to take care of that needle.

Disclaimer: I am not what most would classify as audiophile. But I *am* a musician, so I still have higher standards than the average listener. That said, I was extremely happy with all aspects of this purchase. More than satisfied with the overall sound, and the purchasing experience was also better than I could have hoped for. I wanted automatic, but also belt operation, a better than average cartridge, and the option of a preamp. All covered. As some have mentioned, the lack of a clamp is felt. But I keep a twist tie handy just in case. Kudos to ND for picking up the phone and patiently/pleasantly answering a couple of questions I had while doing the initial assembly. Overall, thumbs way up, as the expression goes. I think this may be one of the best values anywhere for the more casual, but still discriminating listener.

I received this turnable package in December of 2011 and have been in love with it ever since. The sound quality and build quality are wonderful. This plays records that older players couldn't handle without skipping. Highly recommend.

I think a lot of the negative comments are a result of the arm-balancing instruction. I did it as instructed, and got some of the effects other reviewers describe, like distortion. But I continued playing around with the arm weight and the anti-skate until I reached a point where the distortion was gone, and the sound was clearer than any vinyl I've ever heard, while at the same time the needle was barely touching the vinyl. I've only owned 4 turntables in my lifetime, so the sample size is small, but this Denon simply buries the other three.

I just received the Denon 300F with 2M Red cartridge today. After about of hour of fiddling I'm listening to vinyl again. I'm very pleased. This turntable is nice and quiet and the automatic feature is a pleasure. Set up was a breeze. Great product for a great price.

Update from previous review. Use a good quality digital tracking force gauge to set this unit. I played with the tracking force and it dramatically effected the sound. My TT is set a little heavier than recommended by Ortofon but it sounds fuller with a better soundstage and overall sound. It was a little thin before and lacked sonic fullness. Tracking force on this TT is important for great , full sound.

I have been extremely pleased with the performance of this unit and the 2M Red. I go into my lower level and enjoy many different genres of music and all are fabulous sounding to the ears. Needle Doctor was top notch to call and discuss my order with. It would be nice to have that clip for the tone arm though.

I have only had this TT for 5 days and can already tell it is a winner for sure! The combination with the ortofon red is to die for. The sound is warm as could be expected, with excellent tracking and no real break in period. I bought this after my vintage Technics failed on me. Instead of paying out the nose to get that one fixed, I decided to take a chance on this one. Not really a chance, because this combo has lots of fans out there. Like everything, it is not perfect. The auto start/return mech is a little noisey and getting the tracking force/tone arm balance adjusted took several tries. Now that it is dialed in, I am loving it! Do not hesitate to purchase this thru Needle Dr. The staff were great to me and extremely helpful thru the whole process. Brad is the best! Thanks again, mate!

Been using mine for a couple years now, still works great. An auto return was a must for me, and the auto start is nice. Not sure if I will upgrade to the blue needle when the time comes, or if I will stick to the red. Play mine with a Kenwood KR-6600 and Original Large Advents. I did replace the black rubber mat(which worked fine) with a cork mat that looks beautiful.

I am now in my fifth year with the DP300f and it has been trouble free. It is an excellent performer. I noticed that one person gave it a one star rating because he had trouble replacing the belt because he had removed the platter to change the switch of the internal pre-amp. He made a mistake because the platter does not have to be removed to access the switch! Just remove the rubber mat and the platter has access holes that let you reach the switch without needing to remove the platter.

I think this turntable is fantastic. Looks great, and works great. I don't find the automatic return clunky at all either - it's almost totally silent and quite smooth. Very happy with this TT for the price! :)

I was looking for a turntable with automatic functions but with a better tone arm than most other TTs. This is a very good TT for the price. I disagree with some that the automatic functions are clunky. I find that yes, it is gear driven, but it is nearly silent in operation and works quite well. The Ortofon 2M red is a great cartridge for this TT. There are 2 negatives: the TT lacks a grounding strap (this didn't cause me a problem, but it may be an issue for others), and it lacks a tone arm clip. You need to provide your own way of keeping the tone arm in place when moving it.

I got this TT package yesterday and I love it. Great sound with on board phono stage. I wanted to listen first and decide on separate phono stage but the built in sounds fine to me. My new TT was packaged so well and the cartridge was mounted with skill and perfection by Rachel Klose. This is a great company and they take pride in their work. What else do you need? I will be buying more from these fine folks ! I don't think you can possibly do any better for under $500 especially with an automatic unit. Thanks Gang!

Outstanding value! I am very very pleased with the performance of this combo. I was up in the air with this and the Pro-Ject Debut III Carbon, but for me the automatic feature sealed the deal. As someone who entertains frequently I felt that having to excuse myself constantly to keep my needle from ruining itself on the constantly spinning record. The Denon takes care of the stylus duties. Sound quality is excellent! I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the automatic action of the tone arm does appear a little clunky, especially compared to the "like butter" action on my old Dual. No regrets though, this is a great buy and I enjoy it greatly! Thank you Needle Doctor!

I purchased the denon DP 300F w/ ortofon red from needledoctor.com several months ago. The record player sounds great and the service from needledoctor was much appreciated. I would agree that the automatic feature is a little clunky, and not perfectly smooth, but it is not a major issue and really doesn't bother me at all. The ortofon red is excellent and brings out the best in your vinyl. This has to be the best automatic turntable on the market in this price range. You really won't be disappointed. I have no problem giving this turntable 5 stars. The sound is excellent and that is all that matters. . . .

Good Table and a Great Price

Great support from Needle Doctor. Great job pre-mounting the 2M Red, too. This is a great deal. Does it sound like a Clearaudio/Benz Ace? Not remotely. Does it sounds pretty darned good? You bet! And, after two glasses of wine I won't be afraid to operate this one!

I just recently bought the denon DP300F/ortofon red package. I'm very happy with the denon turntable. It seems to be solidly built with good isolation and a great tonearm. Unfortunately, the 2M red cartridge seems to be a weak link. Most of the time it sounds great with earth shattering bass, warm mids and brilliant highs. However it has a hard time reproducing "s" sounds, more often than not they come through very harsh with a sizzle sound. I've spent hours adjusting the tracking force, anti-skating force and cartridge alingment. I've also cleaned the stylus as well as my records several times, all without any luck. I probably have 50 hours or so of playing time so far. If it does not get better I will likely buy another cartridge and would have to recommend buying the denon turntable without the ortofon red and upgrading to the cartridge of your choice.

I think that the DP-300F w/2M Red Ortofon cartridge outperforms the Pro-Ject Debut III turntable with the OM5E cartridge. I recommend an external preamp as an alternative to the built-in amp for critical listenening.

After considerable research I finally purchased the Denon DP300f with the Ortofon Red. The fully automatic function was a huge plus for me, and so was the price. The only issue I have is the RCA connections being attached and the cable not being long enough to reach my receiver (an adapter solved that). It took me about a week to make my determination; and that is, I love it! I'm very happy with my selection and had a new turntable cocktail party to show-it-off (an excuse for a cocktail, I suppose). I recommend this turtable to anyone who loves playing vinyl and has a limited budget.

From the perspective of a person who loves good quality music, but is far from an audiophile. I'm new to vinyl and I was looking to spend a maximum of $500. With that being said, I absolutely LOVE this turntable! Cosmetically, it is very appealing. Glossy charcoal gray plinth. The rubber slipmat is amazing! Along with the tinted dust cover Sound: This package with the Ortofon 2M Red, is awesome! It gives my speakers new life! I'm finally, getting that great warm, full, resonating sound I've been trying to achieve with CDs and high bitrate or uncompressed digital files. There is no substitute for vinyl. And this turntable will not disappoint. You will have a new appreciation for music you've listened to for years. It'll be like your first listen. I hope this review was helpful. P.S. The Needle Doctor crew was VERY helpful with their level of customer service as well as the insanely fast shipping. Thanks guys!

I have owned my DP300F for quite a while and it has never let me down. It is an excellent unit with surprising isolation from vibration, no feed back at all!

High Quality turntable with the upgraded ortofon red cartridge is well worth the price!! This Denon turntable offers far superior sound quality to my old Sony table. It has many features of more advanced (expensive) manual tables / very solid construction pleasing to the eye. I could not be happier with this table!!
