Grado 8MZ V Stylus
Optimized Transmission Line (OTL) Cantilever/Stylus AssemblyGrado's OTL provides an ideal transfer of the signal from point to point, e.g., stylus to cantilever to magnet to coils, etc. This has been achieved by eliminating resonance at each of these key junctions. The transmission line cantilever consists of separate sections that are telescoped into each other. All sections are made of different alloys, some sections hollow, other sections solid. These sections are bonded together with materials that act as dampers, and are coated with a black proprietary material which controls and absorbs resonances that travel on the surface of the cantilever (known as skin effects). The OTL stylus/cantilever design will make your records sound quieter, improve the height, width, and depth of the soundstage, and offer more detail than previously obtainable. Cartridge Holography does exist...and that is what Grado's OTL technology is all about, more performance.
Pivoted-Fixed Axial Cantilever/Stylus GeneratorThis design feature is basically quite simple. The "OTL" cantilever shaft is brought to a fixed axial pivot that supports the entire cantilever assembly. A miniature element attached to the end of the cantilever is allowed to move freely within the lines of flux of a stationary magnet and coil structure. This system of support is mechanically more accurate (more linear) than conventional "teeter-totter" designs that utilize an iron armature to balance the mass of the cantilever. The teeter-totter design is supported in the center with a rubber donut mounting. The fixed axial design has a very low tip mass, which results in lower distortion, improved transient response, and longer record life.

Fantastic. I have it in an old GF3 cartridge, which is equivalent to a modern Prestige Blue. I loved the Gold stylus that I used to have in it, but the 8MZ takes it much further. Still incredibly rich, warm, and musical, but noticeably more top-end clarity, sweetness, and soundstage/ stereo seperation. Sounds Grado-delicious and exceedingly clear on all styles of music. Deep, visceral, open and dynamic bass, balanced perfectly with a full and luscious midrange, into a sweet, clear, sensitive treble. No harshness, no unnecessary compression; only richness and clarity at once. Like I said, on ALL styles of music.
Impressive. Better stereo separation. Crisp and clean across all frequencies. Highly recommended upgrade.
This stylus will fit any of the modern Prestige Series carts (Black1 to Gold1) and has a finer tip than the TOTL Gold1. Inexplicably it costs less than a replacement Gold1 stylus! This stylus is an instant upgrade.
Perfect , well of course it is the original . Nice to hear that cart working the way it was supposed to .
What all Grado Premiers need
This stylus opened up my Black 1 cartridge beautifully. Where the original stylus was harsh with some of the brighter instruments like cymbals and violins, this one lets everything from bass drums to cymbals shine.
If I had any influence, I would tell Grado to put this on all of their Premier cartridges!
