HANA Elliptical Phono Cartridge
Introducing HanaWhen an OEM house distributes their own brand, they reserve their best efforts for themselves and Excel is no exception. Hana, translated as “brilliant and gorgeous” represents Excel’s best materials including alnico magnets, cross-shaped armatures, and proprietary manufacturing processes. They have excelled at creating MC cartridges noted worldwide for their sound and value, which retain their “musical magic” regardless of their phono stage pairing.
Elliptical High(EH) and Low(EL)Hana EL and EH moving coil cartridges represent the best way to upgrade from “starter” cartridges that typically come packaged with turntables. Weighing in at only 5 grams, and possessing great tracking ability, the Hana EL and EH cartridges feature a distinctive moss green body which houses a sophisticated generator with an aluminum cantilever, and synthetic elliptical stylus.
“Both these moving coil cartridges bring genuine advantages to any listening session at a low, low price. Terrific value for money.” — Paul Rigby, HiFi World (UK)

I have a Pro-Ject RM 1.3, and was using a MM, of fairly high quality. I just wanted an upgrade, and knew that I was going to try to go with a MC. The price vs. quality for the HANA is unbeatable. This is my first MC, but what a start. I am blown away. The sound stage is opened up, so much more. I have a baby audiophile system. Sumo Andromeda II power amp, Pro-Ject DS phono box, custom built pre-amp, and some low budget, high quality speakers. I feel like I have a whole new system. If you are thinking about spending money on a new turntable, and you're using a MM cartridge, give serious consideration to upgrading to a HANA. You will not be disappointed.
I made the switch from a famous MM that cost a little less than the Hana EL. After just a few hours with the Hana I was overjoyed with it. I can go on with several favorable descriptors, but the one thing I really like about this cartridge is that music and details come easily and naturally to you as opposed having to pay attention for the finesse and details from the other cartridge which is still exceptional. The high end is very articulate but not overly brash, the midrange and vocals are lush and velvety. The bass is very decent and punchy, especially from well recorded genres such Reggae, Soul and Punk, but could use just a little bit more slam. But I only have about 16 hours on it now on a very lo mass tone arm. I am looking to upgrade my turntable to take advantage of this wonderful cartridge. It may not be as analytical as the other cartridge, but the EL is amazingly musical and life like. There is not a genre from my record collection I would shy away from using this cartridge on. Also, very quiet, no inner groove distortion and not very picky as far as alignment goes. No regrets here on this purchase.
Have this cartridge on my vpi Classic and I am blown away. The Hana IMO is better in every way, than the Sumiko Blue Point 2. Its like adding the sweetness of tubes to SS. Tight, clean, very defined bass & beautifully sweet sounding highs. The Hana is free of coloration & just seems to make everything right. A very wide sound stage & instrument placement is genius. Its like combining the natural sound of planar speakers with the impact of cones. Claptons guitar or James Taylor voice never sounded this good with any other cartridge I have owned. Highly Recommended. Thank You Brian, for all you help & advice.
Bought the el version to replace my damaged Dynavector 10+5 while i have it repaired .Now that won't be nesacerry. This cartridge is a giant killer .The sound is increadable. Finally my records sound better than CD .Thanx
I have a Hana EH on my project acrylic turntable for about a year now, very nice indeed,! Smooth highs, nice open soundstage with gobs of depth.Bass could be a little tighter but my system is all tubes at the moment, very nice midrange. For the price a nice cartridge that will sound fantastic on a wide range of turntables.
