Ortofon 2M Blue Nude Elliptical Stylus

The 2M series were developed in conjunction with Danish designer Møller Jensen Design – the same designer who designed the award winning MC Jubilee and Kontrapunkt series. Inspired by the facets of a diamond, whose contours gracefully trace the grooves on a record’s surface, the 2M’s handsome elegance establishes a great combination of form and functionality.

2M are designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Our philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound. We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, weight and size to fit the most common turntables at the market today.

The name 2M was selected among several ideas. We wanted a modernname which should be easy to pronounce and to remember, and therefore an alpha numerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

The 2M series of cartridges feature Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention which enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series. The 2M Blue uses an improved engine, which provides an increased output of 5.5mV.

We were happy with the richness and musicality of the 2M Red, but when the stylus needed replacing went for the upgrade. It's a striking improvement, opening up the soundstage and improving the imaging a great deal while still retaining the rich sound. I'm expecting it to get even better with a little time, but we're really happy we made the upgrade. We have a Linn Basik LVX tonearm on an AR Turntable.

Upgrade the 2M Red on my Debut Carbon with the 2M Blue stylus. Like other reviewers, I'm surprised at how much difference this made. It was like taking a blanket off my speakers. Just a cleaner, fuller all-around sound. It's like a complete cartridge upgrade without touching your cartridge.

Upgraded my 2M Red with the 2M Blue stylus and the improvement was really surprising. Cleaner, fuller sound. Richer mids and lows especially. Well worth the money to upgrade a factory installed cartridge without turning a screw.

I replaced the Stanton 500 with the Shure Whitelabel. This was an improvement, but I wanted much more. The 2m blue is THE ANSWER! It has a fuller sound, better soundstaging, and the bass is deeper and tighter.I listen mostly to jazz(Miles,Coltrane,Cannonball, and others of that era as well as orchestral music. The 2m blue is superb

Wow! Like the others here i was so surprised at what a difference it made from the Red i also was happy with the Red until i heard the Blue well worth the up-grad

BIG step up from the Ortofon 2M Red. With the new Definitive Tech speakers, I can HEAR the audio differences. Crisper highs, more defined. All around better. Thanks, Ortofon & thanks to Needle Doctor for carrying this in stock & quick delivery !
