Ortofon Technology

New technology and further optimization have produced the greatest sounding magnetic cartridges from Ortofon - ever!

Ortofon has been designing and manufacturing magnetic cartridges for more than 20 years. In providing an economic alternative to the renowned Ortofon moving coil cartridges, the magnetic models have established a firm position for themselves among music lovers and Hi-Fi cognoscenti the world over.

Naturally, the magnetic cartridges also benefits from Ortofon's research and experience in transducer technology. Sophisticated styli, light and rigid cantilevers, and advanced magnetic circuitry have produced a level of quality which is state-of-the-art within the magnetic category.

The Ortofon Super OM Cartridges

OM Series- The new Super OM cartridges have been designed on the basis of Ortofon's lightweight moving magnet system - originally introduced in the OM (Optimum Match) Series - with two major refinements. By means of advanced computer simulation methods, it has been possible to define the natural pivot point of the system with unprecedented accuracy while achieving an optimum oscillation balance. This translates into improved linearity, higher channel separation, and reduced distortion.

In addition, Ortofon has succeeded in developing a technique by which to slit the less than 1 mm diameter hollow pole pins, thus significantly reducing eddy current losses caused by magnetic hysteresis. This sophisticated technology extends the frequency range and improves phase linearity. The cartridge body is manufactured from a Noryl plastic/glass combination, which ensures high rigidity, and freedom from resonances.

Three Different Styli, Three Levels of Performance

All three Super OM models have the same body, construction, and magnetic circuitry. The only difference is the interchangeable stylus unit.

Choose between a nude fineLine stylus (Super OM 30), a nude elliptical stylus (Super OM 20), or an elliptical stylus (Super OM 10), all of which are cut and polished to the highest standards of the industry.

For demanding purposes, the Fine Line stylus is particularly recommended. This slim profile will track even the highest frequency groove information, At the same time, its larger than normal footprint ensures reduced distortion and record wear.

Naturally, you can upgrade a Super OM 10 to a Super OM 20, or even a Super OM 30 at any time. Your only expense will be the cost of the stylus unit. And if the original stylus is not worn out, you can still use it for less demanding applications.

The Super OM stylus units are also compatible with all the bodies of the entire ortofon OMP line. IF you own an OM cartridge, you are able to enjoy the improved stylus and cantilever technology of the Super OM range. However, it takes a Super OM body with Ortofon's new magnetic circuitry to realize the full Super OM potential.

OM Stylus 40 Upgrade

This specially chosen stylus is an improvement on the original van den Hul shape. In addition to providing excellent tracking ability, the new shape is more robust and places far less critical demands on the cartridge/headshell mounting. Its slim, highly polished profile allows a wide contact area to the groove.

Its a must buy for the AT-LP120, replaced the stock AT-95E to this cartridge and it sounds amazing . Just Awesome!

Great cartridge for the price. Couldn't be happier.

I believe it came as a "stock package" on my DUAL CS-5000 in the 80's. Not bad for the time..not really memorable, since I had upgraded several times.

This is a good cartridge for my Rega RP-1. The sound was tremendous for the unit price. The cartridge allows a great upgrade path which I recently took advantage of and moved up to an OM 40 stylus.

Fantastic cart for the $$. Had his installed on my newly aqquired early 1980's Harman Kardon T-45 Turntable. It blows away the AT P-mount (w/adaptor) that the T-45 came with. No hum whatsoever! I know there are better sounding carts, but for the price, this cannot be beat!

An excellent cartridge on a budget. Extremely fast shipping and great customer service doesn't hurt either.

I purchased this cartridge a few weeks ago for an older turntable (Philips 312) and I've been extremely pleased with it! Great sound for the price-point and a great fit for that turntable and its tonearm, and allows for easy upgrading of the stylus (when I'm ready for that step). I'm also extremely happy with the service from Needle Doctor! The sales rep I spoke with, Brian, was super helpful with my cartridge decision, taking my amp (a Denon) into consideration for this choice and even steering me away from more expensive options. He also was great at answering questions I had re. record cleaning systems, etc. I'll definitely make future purchases from Needle Doctor again with no reservations!

After receiving mine from the Needle Doctor today, I can say I'm very happy with the sound quality this cartridge brings out on my vintage Technics tt. For the price it's well worth it. I hope to upgrade the stylus later when I can get a chance.

Has a glazed over presentation and a midrange suckout. Still OK for a cheap carftridge

Best cartridge for the money ! After hearing my old DUAL/OM 10, my daughter had to have a new Technics 1200 with the OM 10. Beautiful sound !

grab one one of these whole you can , one of the most underated budget mm,s going with easy upgradabily by simple stylus change ,great dynamics and overall balence for price

A great cartridge at a great price. I use it in my Technics 1200MK2 and it works flawlessly!

    Great cartridge at any price!

I have the OM10 on my vintage Yamaha PF-800TT, and with the OM10 stylus, it makes my system sound like music, not a system!

    Excellent for under $100

Looked to replace the stylus on my Empire cartridge, but there was non available. Brain suggested this cartridge as a replacement. Great suggestion. Nice separation, good clean sound. The cartridge was less than the replacement stylus I found on another site and has proved much better value. Thank you.
