Ortofon Technology

New technology and further optimization have produced the greatest sounding magnetic cartridges from Ortofon - ever!

Ortofon has been designing and manufacturing magnetic cartridges for more than 20 years. In providing an economic alternative to the renowned Ortofon moving coil cartridges, the magnetic models have established a firm position for themselves among music lovers and Hi-Fi cognoscenti the world over.

Naturally, the magnetic cartridges also benefits from Ortofon's research and experience in transducer technology. Sophisticated styli, light and rigid cantilevers, and advanced magnetic circuitry have produced a level of quality which is state-of-the-art within the magnetic category.

The Ortofon Super OM Cartridges

OM Series- The new Super OM cartridges have been designed on the basis of Ortofon's lightweight moving magnet system - originally introduced in the OM (Optimum Match) Series - with two major refinements. By means of advanced computer simulation methods, it has been possible to define the natural pivot point of the system with unprecedented accuracy while achieving an optimum oscillation balance. This translates into improved linearity, higher channel separation, and reduced distortion.

In addition, Ortofon has succeeded in developing a technique by which to slit the less than 1 mm diameter hollow pole pins, thus significantly reducing eddy current losses caused by magnetic hysteresis. This sophisticated technology extends the frequency range and improves phase linearity. The cartridge body is manufactured from a Noryl plastic/glass combination, which ensures high rigidity, and freedom from resonances.

Three Different Styli, Three Levels of Performance

All three Super OM models have the same body, construction, and magnetic circuitry. The only difference is the interchangeable stylus unit.

Choose between a nude fineLine stylus (Super OM 30), a nude elliptical stylus (Super OM 20), or an elliptical stylus (Super OM 10), all of which are cut and polished to the highest standards of the industry.

For demanding purposes, the Fine Line stylus is particularly recommended. This slim profile will track even the highest frequency groove information, At the same time, its larger than normal footprint ensures reduced distortion and record wear.

Naturally, you can upgrade a Super OM 10 to a Super OM 20, or even a Super OM 30 at any time. Your only expense will be the cost of the stylus unit. And if the original stylus is not worn out, you can still use it for less demanding applications.

The Super OM stylus units are also compatible with all the bodies of the entire ortofon OMP line. IF you own an OM cartridge, you are able to enjoy the improved stylus and cantilever technology of the Super OM range. However, it takes a Super OM body with Ortofon's new magnetic circuitry to realize the full Super OM potential.

First impressions: a bit bass heavy but enjoyable on classic rock. For not much more the 2M is vastly superior. This is much closer in overall performance to the lower end Omega IMHO, which costs half the price. Not a stunner or lemon, the OM5 performs about what one would expect for the price. Still, a pretty good value. 4 stars since one can add an upgrade stylus which the Omega I believe can not.

A friend of mine asked me to set this cartridge up on his Denon table. I don't know where he bought it from. For under 100$ you get a very solid cartridge. For John Q. Average, this is a terrific go-to, and rivals cartridges costing more. I like the strong output, and good tracking.

It sounds really warm!!This is one of the best budget phono cartridges i've ever had.If you dont have much money but you want real good sound quality dont think just buy it!!

Hi Guys, I received my cartridge. No problems with delivery. I have the cartridge set on my old pioneer turntable. Sounds fantastic, quite an improvement on the standard cartridge that did have a new needle fitted recently. Has given the old classic machine a new life. I will contact you guys when i need a new needle for the Ortofon. Thanks.

Included on Many Entry Level TT's, but Upgrade to a 2M RED

I bought a Project Debut III, some years ago, that came standard with this cartridge. It performed fine, but seemed a bit flat and lacking in higher frequency detail. I upgraded to an Ortofon 2M Red and saw the immediate improvement. I also have an AT 440 MLA with a NOS 125 stylus which blows them both away in HF detail, but the Ortofons are still a pleasant listen.

One of the best in this price range. Better bass response compared to Audio Technica. Great stereo separation and detail. Its on the bright side so had to adjust load capacitance to 350pF

    Good cart

Nice flat response. The upper highs aren't shrilly like AT carts. Nice bass response
