Ortofon Quintet Bronze Moving Coil Phono Cartridge
Ratings & Reviews
I have only had this cartridge playing for perhaps a few hours - this is my first MC. I am now a permanent convert to MC cartridges. Coming from a music hall/ortofon 540 mkii variant on my mmf 5.1. The former cartridge was very pleasing but perhaps a little laid back sounding on my very revealing system (quad 99 pre with 12L actives). In changing to the quintet bronze it's like somebody just added several layers of music with increased dynamics and depth of soundstage. Much fuller sound - especially in the bottom end. I would recommend a listen if possible but I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this cartridge. I have also come to realize that when budgeting for a new turntable it makes a lot of sense to ultimately spend as much on a cartridge as the table itself, whether up front or on a longer time horizon. This has by far made the biggest difference in how the table sounds.

Switched over from the Benz Micro Ace medium output MC cartridge. Still adjusting to the sound. Solid tracker, looks great on my acrilic Pro-ject. Easy to view the stylus and determine if it needs a brushing.

I don't actually own this cartridge, but I spent thirty plus intimate hours with it at the Axpona show in Chicago, where Brian and the Needle Doctor were kind enough to help me demo my speakers. Brian brought a Rogue amp, pre amp a very quiet M.S. phono stage the Project Xperience turntable and this little beauty of a cartridge. We were both very pleased with our presentation and I was very pleased for their choice in components. We can use all the words we want when describing the sound of a component or system, and that's fine. But here are some facts. We had many people sit and listen for 20 to 30 minutes or more. That says a lot when there are 100 rooms to visit. We had quite a few people come back and listen again and some came back with their friends. A few couples said they always come back to the rooms that sound good. Two guys said top five room. And Jonathin Valin said voices sounded real. People were just enjoying the music. It doesn't matter how good [I think] my speakers are, they only give what they get. And Brian will tell you, I really enjoyed this cartridge. So when I buy another cartridge in a year or so, this ones at the very top of my list!
The Quintet Bronze was the first MC cartridge I have ever bought. It is magnificient. I never would have believed such fidelity exists in vinyl records. When you buy and install this pickup you get all new records with it. The realism of the sound amazes me everday. At work all I think about is getting home and listening to my Ortofon. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The people at needle-doctor were a big help. Thanks to everyone.
