Details

The top of the Rega cartridge line. The EXACT shares the same body moulding as the rest of the Rega cartridge line. This is a one piece body and has no energy sapping joints between the stylus mounting and headshell contact face. The EXACT has a highly expensive non removable cantilever, fitted with a "Vital" diamond tip. The headshell face is machined perfectly flat to ensure maximum contact between the cartridge and headshell. Rega has designed and developed its own coil winding machine leading the way to new and innovative techniques in coil winding. Approximately one third less wire is used than in our other cartridges, making the EXACT even more efficient than the ELYS. Rega entered the cartridge market in the early 80's and now has six moving-magnet designs. All cartridges are hand made by Rega utilizing custom coil winding techniques and ultra high precision molded bodies. The Rega cartridge is a one piece molding made of Pocan, a polymer with a hardness greater than industrial aluminum. Most cartridges loose high frequency energy by the movements generated in many joints created in conventional manufacturing. Most cartridges have five or six joints between the stylus mounting and the cartridge/headshell face. Rega cartridges have none! Most cartridges have to allow for large tolerances when manufacturing automatically with a reasonable gap of 0.7mm between the moving magnet and the pole pieces. This gap on Rega cartridges is only 0.25mm, much lower than any moving magnet cartridge we have tested. Design – No Energy Sapping Joints The Exact shares the same body molding as the rest of the new Rega cartridge range. The body molding is a one-piece body and has no energy sapping joints between the stylus mounting and headshell contact face. The headshell face is machined perfectly flat to ensure maximum contact between the cartridge and headshell. Coil Winding – One-Third Less Wire Rega has designed and developed its own coil-winding machine allowing them to manufacture coils in a completely new and innovative way. This means approximately one third less wire is used than in Rega’s previous cartridges producing a more efficient and reduced mass cartridge. The Exact Cantilever – Diamond Tip The Exact has a expensive non-removable cantilever, fitted with a “Vital” diamond tip. This tip fits into the record groove more precisely than the usual elliptical type, allowing more information to be gleaned from the records. Packing – More for the Cartridge Rega has not tried to create a false impression of product expense by using elaborate packaging. By using the simplest and inexpensive cartridge carton possible, yet still avoiding transit damage, Rega spends more on the cartridge itself - ensuring better value. Assembly – Hand Crafted Due to the design and extremely high tolerances of Rega cartridges, the assembly methods are more akin to watch making than to a mass production assembly line. Every cartridge is hand built. The highly skilled operatives use little more than tweezers and microscopes. Each cartridge is then adjusted and tested twice during a 24-hour period. Such methods are expensive and time consuming but Rega feels the result is worth it. We know you will too! Rega Exact 2 Cartridge Specifications:

The Analog Kid was knocked out by its explosive, energetic sound, breathtaking midrange purity, and transient snap. He was less fond of its ?aggressive? top end and abundant low-frequency and midball energy. Even so, he recommended auditioning the Planar 9 as a system incorporating this cartridge and concludes that "the Exact could bring a somewhat reticent system to life." (Vol.20 No.8) Hi-Fi News R.R.(G.B.) Aug. 96 "I was reminded of the Supex 900 sound of yore. This cartridge has a similar midrange sweetness, a rightness on vocals, saxophones ad strings, but at the same time it has a brighter, more forward balance, and a "modern" kind of snap and punch. The bass of the old Supex, and although it could create reasonable depth, the Exact is far from "laid back". But the Exact does have the ability to surprise you ccontinually with new detail from old records. Or perhaps it is wrong to say "new detail." Really what comes over is new life and pace. The Exact works wonders with pre-digital jazz, rock and R"n"B recordings." I found myself hurrying to pull out old favorites one after the other, eager to hear them respond to the freshening up this cartridge seemed ready to give them. The Exact often seemed to bring out the dynamics in a quite unexpected way, and I can only assume that it really is extracting more of the dynamic range on the record.? Stereotimes Review The Rega Exact Phono Cartridge An Overlooked Gem I rank the Exact among my 'Music Master' cartridges: cartridges that you listen to for deep musical satisfaction. To deliver its best, it should be matched with components that are also highly adept at communicating music. Very highly recommended.

I've 'reviewed' numerous cartridges here, across a number or turntable and arm combinations. The Exact is in my RP 10, and this is just a note to say my findings are consistent with the other reviews here. The 'vital' stylus profile makes a huge difference in combination with the RP10, and while the overall presentation veers toward too analytical and emotionally unengaging, it never actually crosses the threshold. The depth of detail retrieval , coupled with the RP10 capacity for tymbral resolution works really well. This cart is a temporary measure while I prepare for the acquisition of the rega Apheta 2. Pleasantly surprised, and bought principally on the basis of the reviews I've read. Never heard one before

Keep in mind these do wear out. One came fitted to my brand new Rega RP6 turntable two years ago, loved it. Recently, especially vs digital, I felt like the highs were rolled off. All the internets said cartridges last a long time, but regardless got a brand new Exact cart and damn! Highs are back, signal sounds stronger and more powerful overall. After two years of maybe 30-60 min/day use.

I have progressively stepped up from the Bias2 to the Elys 2 and now to the Exact 2. With the Exact 2 I am finally satisfied with the performance and sound of my Rega P3-24. Much more detail and clarity and highly improved tracking due to the vital fine line stylus. I can now simply enjoy listening to my LP collection.

I would normally not be able to afford such a high end cartridge, but I got lucky buying a mint Rega P3-24, with this cartridge and many upgrades for barely more than the price of the cartridge. This cart sounds amazing - very detailed, yet still very musical, and not overly analytical. And pretty forgiving of not so great condition vinyl.

This cartridge takes a while to loosen up. When it does, it reveals itself as quite a bargain. Forced me to upgrade my phono preamp.

Tried Dynavector, Ortofon, and Grado MMs before but this cart trounces them in dynamics, midrange purity and tonal accuracy. Never looked back!

Involving, fantastic cartridge for any REGA turntable. Great dynamics with grain-free mids. A must listen!

The top of the line in Rega's modest offerings, this cartridge presents the least amount of "vinyl" artifacts among all the MM and MC's I've owned over the past thirty years. Emphasis is on the music, tonal balance, and a realistic sense of presence at the performance. From a reasonable distance, no one listens to woodwind key clacks or the buzz of a dragged finger nail on steel strings. Although lacking the sizzly top end "air" of all moving coils -- a function of the physical construction and suspension system of those cartridges -- the cartridge presents a more realistic listening experience than excessively detailed, exotic MC's whether low or high output. One major limitation: the cartidge is susceptible to AC field hum due to its minimal shielding. Substitution of other Exact 2 cartridges plus upgrading to a Rega 5 arm did nothing to reduce this irritating aspect of an otherwise superb product. Elimination of 60 cycle hum susceptibility makes this a less-than-ideal catridge for translating vinyl collections to any lossless high resolution digital medium.
