Rek-O-Kut Disc Stabilizer Clamp

SKU: ES-CLAMP
Rek-O-Kut designed the DISC STABILIZER CLAMP to work with both modern, vinyl records and answer the needs of vintage record collectors. The heavy tracking forces used on 78s can cause internal disc vibrations that reduce clarity and color the sound. The mass of the DISC STABILIZER CLAMP presses the disc firmly to the turntable's platter, thus dampening such vibration. Most similar devices are designed for modern LPs only. The large diameter of other such clamps permits the turntable arm to strike the clamp before the end of play. So we started a redesign from scratch. These were our design objectives:
  • The mass must be more than that of largest disc played
  • The footprint must be smaller than that of most record labels
  • Its profile must prevent contact with arm's headshell, cartridge or stylus till the end of play of unusual discs
  • The mass must not cause undo wear to the turntable's bearings
  • To protect fragile shellac or glass records, the handle must be easily and firmly graspable
  • This is the original Rek-O-Kut product and not a low-cost copy or "B" stock. It is made of precision-machined brass, and finished with a "black chrome" coating.
    Features
  • Especially designed for both modern LPs and 78's
  • Diameter accommodates small records (2-5/16")
  • Adds to mass of rotating system to reduce flutter
  • Dampens resonance of disc under play
  • Mass couples disc under play to platter
  • Perfect for Hit-of-the-Week records
  • Permits easier play of warped vinyl
  • Mass: one-half kilogram (1.1 Lbs)
  • Helps prevent slipping
  • Large grip handle

I was scepticle as another reviewer was as to whether this would make an audible difference. Wow, I have been pleasantly surprised. Tightened up the bass, gave the treble an airiness and improved clarity in a big way. Sounds like I upgraded my cartridge!

Well made and simple. Does exactly what it advertises and nothing more. Holds my LPs down tight and adds some mass and inertia to my platter. Easy to grasp a hold of and just barely clears my dust cover.

I noticed immediately more detail and tighter bass. Of note, i was able to hear piano resonance on my Koln Concerts By Kieth Jarret that is not as noticeable without the clamp. Great also for slight warp correction. Easy to use. Very satisfied.

Perfect. Simple, straightforward, effective, attractive; not too light, not too heavy; not too big, not too small; not too shiny, not too dull. Balanced. Easy to grip and lift/lower. Dead-flat felt on the bottom. Worth it's cost. Tightens up everything; adds a taught ease to bass and a confident headroom to treble. Clarity. More solid than a rock. Will outlast all of us. Just what I want at the center of every record. Perfect...

Well, what a surprise for such a supposedly simplistic device. Beautifully engineered and finished in the bests traditions of craftsmanship. Can only be described as excellent value

I didn't realize that records didn't lay flat on the the platter until I placed this on top. My turntable has a short spindle, so this was a perfect match for it. I have to get used to this. Sometimes when I place a record and play, I'll forget to put the clamp back on. I keep reminding myself to do this and it will be second nature to me the more I use this. It's another step towards getting the best quality and making the needle and record last longer.

So here's the deal - this record clamp isn't made out of mysterious anti-resonance materials, and it doesn't screw down or have a spring clasp or a vacuum suction grip -- it is just a solid, evenly balanced weight that fits over either small or large diameter (think Empire turntables) center spindles, has an easy grip handle, and is small enough that it doesn't completely cover the record label -- so it doesn't interfere with the cartridge in the exit groove at the end or the record. In short, all it does is firmly hold the record in place, damping vibration -- which is what a record clamp is for. A simple, no muss, no fuss product that does just what it promises, and does it very well. And the metal finish is an ingenious color that will work with virtually any turntable. A truly great, classic product.
