Thorens TD 190 Turntable w/ Ortofon OM Cartridge
The TD 190 ships with the TP 19-1 tonearm & an Ortofon OM cartridge with the stylus of your choosing. The TD 190-2 is the big brother of the TD 170-1. Plinth and platter have more mass, which in combination with the electronically controlled DC motor enhances the silent running as well as the sound. It therefore doesn’t matter if you prefer the delicate sound of a violin or rather some powerful guitar riffs.
Stylus 10 is the most basic of the styli. It offers good quality, distortion‐free playback of all musical genres. Because it uses a bonded‐type Elliptical diamond, it offers a basic level of performance while remaining budget‐ friendly. Stylus 20 offers a Nude Elliptical diamond, which is a significant upgrade over bonded‐types, as it is a pure diamond. Even though the geometry of the stylus is the same, by reducing the mass of the tip by 20%, the stylus becomes more responsive to low‐level details and offers better tracking ability for complex passages, particularly ones at the top of the frequency range (e.g. horns, female vocals). Stylus 30 provides a very significant upgrade with its use of the Nude Fine Line diamond profile. The Fine Line diamond rides much deeper in the groove, allowing it to have a greater degree of contact with the groove walls of the record. This gives the stylus the ability to extract a much greater amount of information during playback. Because the effective tip mass is further reduced, complex passages at the top of the frequency range will benefit from improved clarity and detail. Stylus 40 offers even more improvement over lower models, offering a Nude Fritz Gyger 70 diamond. The dimensions of the diamond make it long and skinny, enabling it to sit deeper in the groove than most other diamond shapes. This provides an extraordinary amount of inner‐detail and insight into the recording, offering much more elbow‐room between musicians in a complex piece where many instruments are playing. Furthermore, it illuminates low‐level details and opens up even the farthest corners of the soundstage. For best results, customers will want to experiment with adjusting the VTA of their tonearm to get the best possible performance out of this diamond shape.
