Don't look for a puny 'wall-wart' power supply accompanying Vincent's gorgeous sounding and beautiful looking PHO-8 MM/MC phono preamplifier. Instead of including a standard wall adapter or incorporating an underpowered AC supply under the hood, the German-based audiophile company went all the way with a superb sonic solution. The PHO-8 uses a significant external power supply housed in a separate chassis for a no-compromise approach to sound quality. Feeling is believing. The power unit weighs around three pounds and has impressive heft when held in the hand. Thanks to a massive transformer and superior power regulation, AC power line ripples and interference are completely eliminated. The PHO-8's power supply unit connects to the phono stage unit via a five-pin DIN-plug. This dual chassis approach is one of the major factors that makes the PHO-8 such a superior component.

I've upgraded from a cheaper Cambridge Azur to this Vincent preamp and, in spite of my early skepticism, been surprised by and extremely pleased with the sonic improvement. There is greater amplitude, the high and low frequencies are crisper, there is less midrange jumble, and the music is significantly more dynamic and exciting. No longer do I feel as though I need to upgrade from my Project Debut and AT 440 stylus.

I own this and the Musical Fidelity preamp ($239), but this one is simply a better preamp. The stability of the signal is something you realize quickly, and something a wall wart cannot give you.

I couldn't be more impressed with this preamp. Wasn't sure what all I was missing through the phono stage on my Mitsubishi DA-C20, but wanted to try an external phono preamp. After much research (and great advice from Brian at Needle Doctor) went with the Vincent. Sounds like a whole new rig and seems to be a great match with my Ortofon 2M Bronze. The Vincent is well built and sounds fantastic. Highly recommended.

The power supply makes this a stable phono stage, and the overall package has been outstanding. However, my Schiit Mani is better and cheaper. That is the only reason it's a 4 star.

I purchased this phono amp with the intention of using it with a MC stylus that I have yet to buy. But in the mean time I ran my MMF7.1 that has an Ortofon OM40, bypassing the build in phono preamp on my McIntosh C41 preamp. Wow what a surprize. I played side 1 of Supertramp Crime of the Century. As I closed myi eyes I thought some one had hooked up a center channel to my 2 channel set up. The Preamp is dead quiet, and the sound stage is huge. I can't wait to see how it pairs up with a Denon DL103R MC stylus I have my eye on.

Just added this to my 34yr old Marantz 6370q tt and coupled with a new ortofon 2m red cartridge and all I can say is worth the price. Steely Dan Aja 30yr reissue album sounds like they are in the room.//////////// Thats the review i wrote for the Pro Jet tube box SE II (I run two tts on my system) well im gonna apply that review here for about half the price the quality and sound is warm and pure love it ...well considering my name is also Vincent figured it had to be good...it is

This is an awesome preamp. It's incredibly clear and I can hear songs through my hi-fi sound card now. I no longer have to fiddle with mic volumes or lower inputs to get the best sound. If I wanted to record a song to FLAC, it's no longer a hassle. A separate, stackable power unit is an interesting concept and I'm no longer worried about electrical hums. It's a perfect match for my Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.

    Very happy with this upgrade

Really happy with the PHO-8! Finally found the bass that I've been searching for - it was being disappeared by the phono stage on the pre-amp. Quieter background, more detail, way more dynamics and crunch and yet easy to listen to. Like the ability to separate the power supply from the pre-amp and audio wires - this totally eliminating a 60hz hum. Nicely built units. Zero-issues delivery took just over two weeks to BC Canada. Excellent!
